Chinese Export Arms of New York Cup Bowl. This exquisite tea bowl features the arms of New York, a rare and sought after motif. Rimmed by a wavy blue band to the interior of cup.The piece has an Elinor Gordon sticker to the bottom. Gordon was one of the foremost experts on Lowestoft and author on the subject.
2 "H X 3 1/2"W. Liberty holding a pole with a cap at the tip is depicted on the left, and Justice on the right wearing a blindfold and holding a scale, the iconic coat of arms of the state of New York appeared on Chinese Export porcelains made between the 1790s to the early 1800s. Many variations of the coat of arms are seen on surviving examples, and some developed into pseudo-arms with the central shield painted with either gilt flowers or the original owners' monograms.
