Chinese Export Arms of New York Cup. This exquisite tea cup features the arms of New York, a rare and sought after motif. Rimmed by a wavy blue band to exterior and blue and gold arrow to the interior.
An Elinor Gordon sticker to the interior bottom. Gordon was one of the foremost experts on Lowestoft and author on the subject. It is marked with either a museum or collection number to the bottom. 2 1/2"H X 3"W. Liberty holding a pole with a cap at the tip is depicted on the left, and Justice on the right wearing a blindfold and holding a scale, the iconic coat of arms of the state of New York appeared on Chinese Export porcelains made between the 1790s to the early 1800s.
Many variations of the coat of arms are seen on surviving examples, and some developed into pseudo-arms with the central shield painted with either gilt flowers or the original owners' monograms.
